The Littlest Heroes exists to positively impact the lives of children with cancer and their families, regardless of income level or northeast Ohio zip code. We hope you enjoy this update.
FAMILY Spotlight: Molly’s Story
Our family of four has lived very normal lives, until recently, when our youngest daughter Molly was diagnosed with cancer. Molly is your average, silly, creative, energetic 7-year-old. When she abruptly stopped walking we were referred to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Within days she was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) and started chemotherapy treatments immediately. On top of this, we started a construction project on our house 4 days before Molly was diagnosed. We have been living with family members for the past 4 months because we cannot risk the chance of infection from exposed walls/ insulation while Molly’s immune system is compromised.
Even though we have been going through one of the worst experiences a family could imagine and in circumstances that you almost have to laugh at because it’s so unbelievable, we still feel so very lucky because of the string support from friends, family, and strangers like yourselves.
RESTAURANT Spotlight: Sara’s Place
Sara’s Place by Gavi’s is located in the scenically beautiful Gates Mills, an area rich with culture, history, and beauty- the perfect location for a charming restaurant!
For more than 2 years, Sara’s has generously provided hundreds of meals to pediatric cancer patients and their families receiving treatment at both The Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital’s Rainbow Babies and Children. The donations allow our families a chance to enjoy a delicious, non-hospital meal as well as an opportunity to socialize with each other and spend quality time with families who share their same circumstances.
We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to Dave and Mary Gromelski along with executive chef, Richard Cunningham, and the staff of Sara’s Restaurant for their immense generosity and kindness.
Please remember Sara’s Place, 1501 Chagrin River Road in Gates Mills, (440)423-1000, for lunch or dinner!
HOSPITAL Testimonial: Akron Children’s Hospital
Our families travel from many counties, near and far, some living several hours away. As children receive treatment, they and their loved ones become part of our Akron Children’s Hospital family. We strive to support them in a variety of ways. The Littlest Heroes helps us make that possible through their Adopt-A-Family program, gift cards for families to our Coffee Cart, financial assistance. Even more impactful are the meals provided by the Littlest Heroes that come from local restaurants for our monthly Family Dinner.
PROGRAM Spotlight: Adopt-A-Family – Liam’s Christmas
We had a wonderful Christmas this year and that is in large part because of all of your hard work and generosity. You went above and beyond to make our holiday as pleasant and stress free as possible. Your gifts were so thoughtful and we were blown away by your kindness. I cannot thank you enough for all the time and energy you have spent on our family. The past year and a half has been extremely difficult for us, but we have been blessed beyond measure with all the love, support, and generosity from family, friends, and people like you!
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
The Littlest Heroes is blessed with the opportunity to help countless families each year. However, we could not do it without the help of our selfless volunteers. Whether you are available on a weekly basis, or just have an hour or two a month that you would like to devote to a family in need, we could use your help!
Please send us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org with your interest and availability!
